Work At Home Job vs Home Based Business

The Work- At- Home Job

Work-at-home jobs are employment opportunities that pay by the hour or per task. In addition to the many opportunities you can find online, there are other jobs you might do from your home. If you enjoy any of these activities, here are a few things to consider:

1. Tutoring
2. Music or Art Lessons (Group lessons can be very lucrative.)
3. Laundry Services
4. Childcare Provider (babysitting or daycare)
5. Jewelry-Making (i. e. beaded necklaces, earrings, etc.)
6. Personal Shopper (Take your little one with you.)
7. Clothing Alterations
8. Unique Crafts
9. Housekeeper (if you’re in a position to take your little one with you)
10. Typist or proofreader (Spread the word at local high schools and universities.)

There are many other ideas out there. Use your creativity and consider the talents you have and what they might have to offer to other people.

If you are interested in more computer or telephone-based opportunities, then there are hundreds of opportunities out there. Just a search online for “work at home job” or “work at home mom/dad” will turn up hundreds of options.

Do not be overwhelmed by the choices available to you. Instead, be thankful that you have the opportunity to choose what is right for your future.

The Home Based Business

There are several key factors to consider when deciding whether you should start a home business versus a work-at-home job. First you must decide whether or not you can financially make the investment that is required to start a home business. Some businesses require a few hundred dollars and some require a few thousand.

Decide what you have to invest and pursue opportunities that fit into that range. They are out there, and the goal is to earn back your initial investment as soon as possible. Make sure you explore the potential to do this.

You should also know a bit about the nature of home businesses to help you make your decision. Many home businesses (not all) are network marketing (or multi-level marketing) businesses. This means that your income depends on your success at enrolling other people to be part of your business … “networking” with other people, whether you do it online or in person.

Often you are paid commissions based on the product use of people in your business group, and most successful companies will also pay additional bonuses.

Although the terms “network marketing” and “multi-level marketing” sometimes make people nervous due to the bad publicity a few negative scams have received, multi-level marketing provides a great opportunity for income growth. The basic idea is that you get paid not only for the work you do enrolling new members but also for the work that all of your members do.

So, you’re earning “leveraged” income that is earned not only by yourself but also by the other people in your group. In most cases, you’re also earning “residual” income, which means that you’re earning income that continues month after month for work that is only done one time.

There are pros and cons to both options and you should make your decision wisely. But most important is that you are passionate about what you do. Waking up every morning to get to work feels like play and not work when you enjoy what you do.
